Obituaries

Funeral services for Mitchell C. Conn of Cordele will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 1, 2010 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Service.  Burial will follow in Cedar Creek Cemetery in Crisp County. The family will greet friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00. Mr. Conn, 71, passed away Tuesday at his residence.  Born in Jefferson County, AL, he was the son of the late Clarence Thomas and Bertha Lee Grisby Conn.  Mr. Conn will be remembered as one of the first EMTs when Crisp County took over the ambulance service and prior to that time was a fireman with the Cordele Fire Department.  He retired from Service Supply Systems as the warehouse manager.  He was a Baptist.  He is survived by his wife, Leona Hayslip Conn of Cordele;  two sons, Scott Conn and his wife, Jane of Bonaire and Michael Conn of Panama City, FL;  three brothers and their wives, Robert and Christine Conn of Morris, AL, Billy Ray and Catherine Conn of Birmingham, AL and Roscoe and Sheila Conn of Pinson, AL;  three sisters, Evelyn Peeples of Tampa, FL, Bonnie Payne and her husband, Riley of Clay, AL and Margaret Merritt of Birmingham, AL;  and a granddaughter, Madison Marie Conn of Bonaire.  Anyone wishing to honor Mr. Conn with memorials, may send them to United Hospice of Cordele, 708 East 16th Avenue, Cordele, GA 31015.
